I need a bit of help with the 'blue pill' DCC controller I'm building.
I've completed the hardware side of things and have programmed it via STM ST-LINK V2 USB Adapter, this connected ok and uploaded the binary.
However, in TeraTerm, the only Port I have is COM4 Intel Active Management, there is no sign of any STMicroelectronics COM Ports. TeraTerm wont connect to the DCC on COM4 (I'm assuming it connects through the ST-LINK USB Adapter?).
I looked on the ST MicroElectronics website and it mentions something about the COM Drivers not being needed for Windows 10.
I've also tried using the Windows Application, going into Configuration and obviously just COM4 is showing but wont connect.
Any ideas or help ?
I've sent an email through to the support email address as well.

Have you tried unplugging the blue pill board and then plugging it back in ? Does Windows report anything when you do this? You are correct about Windows 10 having its own drivers for COM devices.

Make sure you are using a USB data cable not a charger cable. Is the LED on the blue pill flashing?

Thanks for the replies. I'm a bit confused about the USB comment. The blue pill board is attached to my laptop via the STM ST-LINK V2 USB adaptor so therefore going through the debug pins, does it need power from elsewhere ? The LED on the blue pill is flashing.

The STM ST-LINK V2 is for programming only. You need to connect a USB cable to the micro USB connector on the blue pill board then you should see a COM port appear under Windows 10.

Thanks for that. I've tried about 5 different Micro USB cables but no joy. A couple of them look as if they might work but after about 5 to 10 seconds the led changes from a steady flashing every second to constantly flashing quickly. When the led is steadily flashign once a second, the device shows up as a USB Serial device in Device Manager but with an exclamation mark on it.
Do you have a link to a specific 'Data' MicroUSB cable as all the ones I see on eBay etc. are also called 'Charging' ?

Do you have either of the following available:
1. USB HUB 2. Another PC
If you have either can you try using one of these to connect to the STM32F103.
Is your USB on the PC USB3 or USB2 ?

Thanks for the replies, I'll take another look tonight. The USB ports are 3.0, two are standard USB and another is charging USB, I'm using the non-charging ones.
I've got an old laptop or two so I'll try plugging the device into something else and see if I get any joy, I'll also pick up a USB hub and give that a try.
Will keep you posted.

I have tested the "USB power off" option with a Windows HP tablet and this works. When the PC is allowed to turn the power off the COM port for the STM32F103 is not installed correctly but when I disable "USB power off" the COM port is installed and works fine.

Quick update and can confirm it was the usb port, I tried an old laptop that I found and that worked fine, tera term now connecting with no problems.
